A journey through time

Limestone is a carbonate sedimentary rock that is often composed of the skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral, foraminifera, and molluscs . It is a granular stone and can be cut using carbide tipped blades and further refined using a variety of rasps, files and chisels. There is always a joy in uncovering the secrets trapped inside each block. As the piece becomes more refined and the surface is filed and sanded, more of the oceanic sediment is revealed. Sometimes the texture is quite uniform. Other times, large fossils and remnants of shells are unearthed, seeing the light of day 30 million years after first being buried.
